Poets

Poets

A lot of poets profess to be democrats - poets of the people.
And they sell their tiny books at readings for $15. I have to ask.
After all, as a publisher, I know how much they're paying for printing.
And do ask. "Well, I don't want to seem like I'm worth less than all
the other poets selling their books for $15, so I feel good about
selling my books for 10 x's what I paid for it." Do you sell many?
"Not really." Would you rather have money or readers? "Readers,
for sure." You write about people, for people, and you want to have
people read your work, but you don't want them to be able to afford it?
"I don't get you. I have a book out, so leave me alone? Why challenge me?"
I apologize, I'm not challenging you. I'm just curious. I'm a curious guy.
And I look at these lines and think this could be a shakespearian sonnet
if only I would twist it around and put some rhyme at the end of lines
and finish one more all the way to the end. Oops.

Friday Night Poetry Reading

Friday Night Poetry Reading

The first reader brought her children.
Thanked us for participating in her experiment.

My daughters absorbed poetry as they matured
and grew up to be much better poets than I ever hoped to be.
I applauded the "experiment". And was happy to see kids there.

She proceded to read, including poems about her children.
I'm not sure I understood what was going on. I think maybe the
kids were doing their homework in the car on the way home.

After the reading I went over to the kids and thanked them
for their wonderful behaviour. The youngest one asked me,
"Are you an adult?" "No, no way, I would never claim that"

"Good, because I don't think adults are supposed to talk to kids".
I asked him if his mom talked like she talked in her poems a lot.
"No. . .most of the times I understand her...and sometimes I wander."

New book by r soos! during the music =:-)

I feel blessed to be able to share another collection of my own words with my friends. The cover alone is worth the cost. Cost you ask? How about a penny a poem? That's right - 500 poems for a mere $5. That's exciting to an old guy like me. Pennyapoem. Poemapenny.

My Mother-In-Law

My Mother-In-Law

said she thinks my hair looks good today.
Same hair I've always had, and I simply said "Thank you."

"Don't thank me. I still don't like you."
